Woosong University Course Policy

You are expected to behave appropriately in your class.  This means:

·         Turn off your cellular phone.
·         Pay attention to the teacher.
·         Do not talk when your teacher or your classmates are talking.
·         Participate in class.  If the teacher asks you a question, try to answer it.
·         Bring your book, pencil, paper and dictionary to class everyday.

Attendance:

It is university policy that students attend every class.  Failure to attend class will lower a student's final grade.  No one can expect to improve their English if they do not come to class.  If a student is late for class 3 times, it will count as 1 absence.  If a student is absent, they MUST talk to their Department Head and obtain an excused absence form.   That form must then be given to the instructor.
   If a student accumulates more than 5 unexcused absence hours in one semester, the student will automatically receive an “F.” Students should check their attendance as often as possible to avoid mistakes.
  Only absences for sickness, car accidents, interviews for military service, training for army reservists, departmental events, and mourning will be considered with documentary evidence. Students can get up to TWO CLASSES excused per semester within a week of the absence.  Any further excuses are up to the instructor's discretion.

Grading:

Sol-SUP is graded as Pass / Fail. There are no numeric grades. Sol-SUP is not curved.

Grading Criteria:

Attendance = 20%
Homework = 0%
Participation = 20%
Mid-Term Exam = 20% (students will perform 2 mini presentations (10% each) for their partner or small group)
Final Exam = 40% (full 40% for Reflective Journal Check sheet completion. ZERO% for failing to complete
                               the assignment)

Grading Explanation:

Pass / Fail assessment is based on Attendance, 2 Mini Presentations and Student Reflection Sheet.  Mini Presentations (1-2 minutes) are intended to be given in pairs or small groups of 3-4 students. They ARE NOT to be given in front of the whole class. Presentations stem from class activities: presenting results of survey, findings from activities, giving a role-play, etc. Each student must be checked off at least twice.
